Maca, is a root cruciferous vegetable, that grows in one of the most inhospitable regions of the world, the Andes Mountains of Peru.  At altitudes over 13,000 feet, thriving where few other crops can’t survive, enduring intense sunlight, freezing temperatures and wild winds. This resilience of the plant, has imbued Maca with a unique nutrient profile.

For the Peruvians, its use dates back over 2,000 years where the Inca warriors were said to consume maca before battles to boost their energy and stamina, and the Andean women used it to promote reproductive health and support healthy hormone balance.  What was once an ancient Peruvian secret is now a global phenomenon, celebrated for its potential to promote energy, vitality and support healthy hormone balance.

Naturally rich in Vitamin C, iron, copper and potassium, it also contains Vitamin B1, B2 and B6, the minerals, iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, zinc, 19 Amino acids, Glucosinolates, Polyphenols, fibre, as well as small amounts of healthy fats like linoleic acid, palmitic acid, and oleic acid and unique compounds called macaenes and macamides.

Three Types of Maca: Which One Is Right for You?

Maca comes in three varieties—yellow, red, and black—each with its own distinct set of benefits:

Yellow Maca: The most common and widely available, yellow maca is known for its ability to improve mood, boost energy, and enhance stamina. It’s a great everyday choice for general well-being and mental clarity.

Red Maca: Many women find Red Maca helpful in maintaining energy levels and supporting physical resilience as part of a balanced diet.

Black Maca: The rarest of the three, black maca is considered the most potent, particularly for enhancing function, endurance, and sensual energy. It’s often sought after by athletes and those looking to improve focus.

Gelatanised Maca: Gelatinised maca is a form of maca root that has been processed to remove starch, making it easier to digest while retaining its nutrient content.
