As winter sets in, the drop in temperature and humidity can take a toll on our skin, leading to dryness, irritation, and a lackluster appearance.

Maintaining healthy, hydrated skin during the colder months requires a bit of extra care and attention.

Winter weather can be harsh on your skin for several reasons:

Dry Air: Indoor heating and cold outdoor air both lack humidity, which can strip moisture from your skin.

Hot Showers: While a hot shower might feel great on a cold day, it can further dehydrate your skin by removing natural oils.

Wind Exposure: Harsh winds can cause chapping and windburn, leading to red, irritated skin.

Lower Water Intake: People often drink less water in colder months, which can contribute to dehydration.

8 Ways to Improve Your Skin During Winter

Here are some tips to help you maintain soft, supple skin throughout the winter months:

1. Hydrate Inside and Out: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from within. If you have serious hydration issues try our Rosewater toner or Aloe Mist, and spritz the face regularly.

Place a bowl of water in your rooms to work as a humidifier in your home to add moisture to the air and prevent your skin from drying out.

2. Choose Oil Cleansers: Opt for mild, fragrance-free cleansers that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils. Try using an oil cleanser- it doesn’t disrupt your skins natural microbiome and it’s a gentle but effective cleanser. Avoid using hot water to wash your face and body; lukewarm water is best.

3. Moisturise Regularly: Apply a rich, hydrating moisturiser immediately after showering to lock in moisture. Look for products containing ingredients like Moringa oils.

5. Exfoliate Gently: Exfoliate your skin once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells and allow better absorption of moisturisers. Try using our gentle microdermabrasion scrub. Recipe below

6. Eat a Balanced Diet: Include foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids like in hemp oil, vitamins, and antioxidants to support skin health from the inside out. Foods like salmon, nuts, seeds, and leafy greens are excellent choices.

7. Avoid Long, Hot Showers: Limit your shower time to 5-10 minutes and use warm water instead of hot. This helps preserve your skin’s natural oils.

8. Stay Active: Regular exercise boosts circulation, which can help keep your skin healthy and glowing.

Make your own microdermabrasion scrub

In a small bowl combine 2 teaspoons Bicarb soda, 1 teaspoon lemon juice and 1/2 teaspoon water.

Apply to face and gently rub this mixture all over your face using small, circular motions. Continue for 2 mins, rinse off with tepid water.

Do at least once a week.
